The respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), metapneumovirus (MPV) and enterovirus (EV) are the main aetiological agents of upper and lower respiratory tract infections in children. However, these pathogens can cause airway infections in individuals of any age, particularly if elderly, immunocompromised or affected by chronic diseases. They are transmitted through droplets of respiratory secretions emitted by infected individuals or through contact with contaminated surfaces or materials. The symptoms related to these
infections are diverse and can range from simple rhinorrhea to flu-like manifestations to more serious pathologies such as bronchiolitis and pneumonia.
